The Name Game
This week was something else honestly. We played this game called the Name Game where we got a sheet of paper with empty boxes laid out in the design of the classroom's desks. The point of the challenge was to write out everyone's names in the correct desk spaces of where they were sitting in the classroom. The mistake I made with this was I put them in what I thought were the correct desks when in reality they were in a mirror image so I thought that they were all wrong. I knew everyone's name they were all just flipped. Now that I have completed the Name Game challenge twice I know everyone's name and desk.
Finally
Well, it's officially been one month since school started and things are getting much more difficult. I think the most challenging part of math so far has been the Snake on a Plane problem. One of the mistakes I made was calculating the equations incorrectly. I was supposed to find a linear equation to show how many pellets the snake could eat before he could no longer fit in the arena. The hardest part about it is finding linear equations because before this year I didn't learn much about them but as soon as I did some research, they were much easier and I was able to explain what I was doing to the other people in my class when they needed the same help I did. One thing that helped me out a lot was working together with some people in my class who were more advanced in linear equations. Thankfully, I'm now stronger in the field of linear equations and I'm able to calculate them.
The Long Now
Something within these last few weeks that has been extremely difficult has definitely been the Long Now spreadsheet. Although mostly it's involved with my physics class, the math portion has been very challenging with adding, dividing, multiplying, and subtracting variables as well as learning new shortcuts with equations. One mistake I made was incorrectly saving the right format for CodeCogs so I lost a lot of my work and had to start over. Another mistake I made was inserting the wrong Greek symbol into my equations so I had to redo that too. I think the best way that I've gotten better with this specific problem is by practicing certain equations and learning how to put them into CodeCogs to make it easier and formatted for Google Spreadsheets. The way I corrected my mistakes with Greek symbols, was by studying them individually and memorizing them.
Initial Understanding or Understanding Initials?
In this assignment we were asked to plot the initials of our first and last name on graph paper and find the coordinates. After doing so, we were asked to find the equations and find the slope on Desmos graphing calculator. After I found the equations, I entered them into Desmos and everything was going fine until we were asked to save our progress and log off of our computers. Before, I didn't know much about how This week was not my week at all. Even though I have been catching up on my work I'm not sure I've been catching up with my friends. I would snap sometimes (but I'm not sure they noticed) and I haven't been all there during class. This is because I have not been sleeping at the times I should have. I recognized that I have not been getting enough sleep.
Once I acknowledged my mistake of now getting enough sleep, I was able to focus better and complete actual quality work. It helped improve my mood and overall school work, so I was able to identify what was wrong with me this week. I learned that my life in school and my life outside of school are equally as important, and I shouldn't be putting any of them on the back burner because they are both very important. I made the mistake of not taking care of myself, but now that I know, I've learned from this experience, and hopefully it will help me grow later on.
worked so I thought it saved automatically. Little did I know, it didn't. The next day I came to school and realized all my work had been deleted. I re-did all of my work and this time instead of saving it to Desmos, I took screenshots and sent the pictures to myself so I wouldn't lose them. Now I know I actually have to make an account and save the files by hand because they aren't automatically saved. With the process of losing my work twice, I've been able to get more and more familiar with Desmos and I've been able to grow in my math skills.
Combination
With this blog, I'll be combining my fifth and sixth blog. I'm going to combine them because over the past few weeks I've been dealing with the same problem. I'm not sure whether to call it a mistake or not but distractions have been greatly affecting my work and school life according to some of my teachers. Due to the constant distractions not only by my friends and peers around me but also my outside of school distractions, I've been affecting those around me and my work. I can't say it's my mistake as much as other's mistakes that have been distracting me and causing me to lose focus. Over the past couple of weeks I've been working on blocking out these distractions and issues that have been "bleeding into my school life" by putting all of my mind and effort into my work. Although it hasn't been easy and there's been some struggles along the way, I'm able to maintain a steady GPA. what I've learned from this "mistake" is that I need to ignore what others do and say when I'm trying to get things done and it's been much easier to get things done this way.
